Life has a way of landing some surprise punches, having you searching for an exit, a haven, or at least some fresh air. For me, Jumana Fawzi Fouad, my safe haven arrived in the most vibrant and rhythmic wrapping: Hawssa dance fitness. By day, I toiled in the structured world of retail as a store manager, a high-stress gig which, though providing stability, had me yearning for more—something which truly ignited my soul and fueled my calling.
Finding My Rhythm
I remember stepping into my first Hawssa class at a packed gym where I was a member, always observing from the sidelines, victim of the familiar tug of introversion that kept me rooted to the safety of my comfort zone. But today, something was different. The dance moves, the catch tunes, and the unmistakable vibe of pure joy that emanated from all the people in the room invited me in. It was intense. At one of the lowest points of my life, this class became my refuge, a space where I could shed the weight of my woes and just flow.
From Wallflower to Warrior
What started as a desperate need for an escape became so much more. Hawssa was not just a workout; it was a community I didn’t know I so badly needed. As I ascended onto the dance floor, my reserved façade began to crack. With every beat, I was becoming braver, more assertive, and more expressive. The sense of belonging was immediate and overwhelming. My best memory will always be the incredible welcome I received from all the members of the Hawssa family. It was as if I had finally found my true home.
Embracing My Roots
Before Hawssa, my playlists were filled with Western and English songs. However, this experience ignited a beautiful love for celebrating my own culture and music more deeply. It taught me that even though I am an introvert, when you reach this place, you come to know this instant sense of belongingness. Hawssa especially made me appreciate my Egyptian identity and how rich Egyptian music is—a love I hadn’t yet embraced before this. As a teacher today, I am grateful to have a powerful, positive influence on our members. To be a part of their day, to motivate them, as I was motivated, is never something that I take lightly. I am eternally grateful to Captain Sherif and Hawssa, the visionary leader who started this incredible program.
If you want to experience something that could change you, an energetic community, or simply the chance to move and feel alive, I urge you to try Hawssa seriously. At least, try it once. You might just discover the rhythm that can change your life too.
